Beautiful, healthy skin is definitely more than skin deep. What can we do to nurture our skin in a natural way? Women are bombarded with magazine and television ads, claiming a certain product can make you look younger. The skincare industry is huge!
Unfortunately, many of these products contain toxic ingredients that actually age you! When it comes to our skin, what we put inside is just as important as what we put on the outside.
Our bodies have 5 ports of elimination: lungs, kidneys, liver, colon, and SKIN. In order to have healthy skin, it’s important to keep all ports eliminating properly, which leads me to the first of my top 5 natural ways to healthy skin.
1. Drink More Water
The body is made up of mostly water (up to 65%). Getting enough water can help balance your blood sugar, which prevents sugar cravings, and also helps you eliminate toxins, which leads to clearer skin.
Dehydration is a major cause of getting sick, and most people are not getting enough water. Make sure you filter your water. Drinking bottled water is not healthy and should only be used if you cannot afford a filter.
A good rule of thumb to ensure you are getting plenty of water is to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces everyday. For instance, if you weigh 140 lbs., drink 70 ounces (9 cups) of water per day.
One way I use to make sure I get enough water is fill a 32 ounce mason jar up twice a day and not go to bed until it’s empty. Having the visual aid sitting around reminds me to take a sip throughout the day and it’s a measurable way to get at least 64 ounces of water in.
Another fun way to drink water is in a fancy wine glass or goblet! This just makes ya feel special!!
Lastly, always take a bpa free water bottle full of your own filtered water while out shopping or running errands.
Getting plenty of water not only leads to younger, healthier and less wrinkled skin, it helps keep your body functioning the way it should. In fact, doing a pure, distilled water-only fast one day a week is a great way to cleanse the entire body, including the skin.
2. Eat an Organic Diet Rich in Vitamins C&A and Antioxidants
Free radicals build up in our bodies and can cause damage to cell structures. When we eat antioxidants in our diet, it neutralizes these effects. Obviously, choosing organic varieties decreases the amount of aging toxins we ingest.
Organic fruits and veggies loaded with vitamin C should be a staple of your diet if you want younger, healthier looking skin. Vitamin C helps keep skin firm by manufacturing collagen. It is also a powerful anti-oxidant that helps prevent collagen from being damaged.
Vitamin C can be taken orally and applied directly to the skin. Citrus fruits, red peppers, broccoli, and strawberries are all great sources of vitamin C.
You can also supplement with a high quality lipospheric vitamin C, which is more bio-available, helping your body absorb and utilize much more of the supplement, according to a recent study.

Chronic disease, including cancer, has been linked to vitamin D deficiency. Sun exposure has many benefits; however, burning the skin can cause damage, so limit exposure to 20 minutes a day.
If you are lighter-skinned and burn easily, work your way up to 20 minutes by starting out with 5 minutes twice a day. When you are out for extended periods of time, opt for shade, hats, and long-sleeves over toxic sunscreen.

4. Eat Enough Healthy Fats

Ladies, let your skin breathe!! It’s the largest organ on your body! So less is more if you know what I mean. Slathering a ton of makeup on everyday that is most likely full of toxic, harsh chemicals is not good for healthy skin.
Many major department store brands of makeup and skincare contain heavy metals, and other toxic chemicals that are carcinogenic. Instead, opt for all natural makeup instead. Read labels on your makeup and skincare just like you do your food!
